progress update!

So close to the end. We have finished the video, website and digi-pack. We also have the dvd menu and theme set up, all that is left to do is to insert the evaluation when it is finished and burn the dvd.

This is a video of of four screens effect that we didnt get to use that would have been useful for our video but didnt have space.

all that is left to do is plan out our evaluation and film it. we need to take each question in turn and answer them fully. Cool effects and cut backs to the film of parts we are talking about would give us the high marks we are looking for! plenty to talk about...

really nice smoke screen effect, we have a smoke machine at hand so could do this for one of the panels on the album cover

Video Complete

Our video is now complete! however we might have to change part of it at around 1.00 where it shows phil and gerdy setting up on the stage even before stevie has collected gerdy and josh from their house. We are going to put this towards the end now just after we all arrive on the stage, this reduces any confusion to viewers watching the video and helps with continuity.

Update on progress

at the minute we are nearly done editing the clips that we have shot of us in the car and the 4 screens and today hopefully we will get finished on the stage as we have got our guitars and drums and the lighting board for the final shoot. Until then we are concentrating on our website and the completion of our album cover which we have decided to use silhouettes on the front of our cover of each one of our band members

At around 0:28-0:30 we are considering having the same effect in our video of the jack lead being plugged in to the amp.

Stage Update

This is a progress update for our filming on the stage. We spent a couple of hours filming and sorting out what type of lighting we will use. So far we have a few clips we can use and when we film next week we will be better prepared with using the lighting equipment and can hopefully get the majority of the stage clips shot.

"Sour" Webcam video

Here is the Sour webcam video that we posted earlier on the blog, but I am reposting the video as we have an interesting idea that this video helps to illustrate. For the lyrics "At my show on Monday..." we are going to split the screen into four sections, with each band member in one section. One person will have a piece of paper with the word "Monday" written on it and pass it to the next band member in the screen beside him. Then for the lyric "someday" another piece of paper with "someday" written on it will be passed between the two band members in the bottom two sections. For "Paper dreams" the two band members in the top will pour two boxes of shredded paper on the floor, but on the screen the paper will land on the two band members in the bottom screens.

We are planning on filming the onstage sequence this wednesday during school, and after school if we need extra time.

lighting effect

This is the type of effect we are going to create, with the silhouettes and bright lights. This is to hide the image that there is going to be no crowd, but creates the feeling that the band are playing a live gig.

The Cure video

Here is a video showing the silhouettes we are thinking of using onstage, hopefully we can make a similar effect which would make the background on the stage more interesting.

Lighting

Eoghan Murray is going to help our group with lighting, some really cool effects from behind the band looking upwards towards mounted lights where the lights blind the camera and silhouettes are created, would be a 4-5 second clip but would look well if done properly, filming starts next wednesday on the stage, other filming is going well with the car scenes

Some more ideas for the video

Given that we are having a toy car sequence with a cartoon background a good effect to transition between real life and the car scene would be to have a "line drawn" effect on ourselves. We would shoot footage of ourselves then using this effect we would become like cartoon characters, similar to these two videos below.

For a number of reasons I think it would be too complicated and time consuming to go with our original idea of having us playing instruments on a stage with a crowd so it may work out better if there was no crowd and to put more focus on the lighting. An example and inspiration for the new idea would be Mumford and Sons song Little Lion Man.

After doing a bit of research about music videos with cars in them I have come to the conclusion that it is mostly hip-hop/rap videos that have cars in them. This is one of the reasons that I think our video is original as we are experimenting with a car in the video, which isn't common for the rock/indie genre. These are the genres of music produced by the Kooks.

Around the sides of the homepage are colourful artistic images of the band which are nice and eyecatching - perhaps we should consider something similar for our own website. They also have embedded Twitter and music videos along with a news feed to keep their fans up to date with the goings on of the band.

Album cover i made

This is an example of the type of cover i think we will make i got the photo of google and created the rest of it in photoshop. I think this would be a good cover to have on our video as it is very original and it would be good to get a picture of the four of us and try and create this to see what it would look like.

The four of us standing alongside the car with instruments and doing poses etc. with the background being the cut out trees and road we used in the stop motion toy car scene.

These are just some of the kooks covers they have used on their singles and albums we are hoping to do something like this as it has a rugid look to it which is quite a common look for a rock indie band like the kooks

Shooting Schedule

Dec/Jan - Filmed toy car sequence in our cartoon road using stop motion. Should be ready for use in final film.

Wednesday - Filmed opening scenes involving car picking up Phil, darkness may be an issue so some may need to be reshot.

Next filming - Film Stevie getting into the car, turning engine on etc and pulling out of the street. The Kooks song comes on the radio. Then we'll film Stevie picking up remaining members of the band (Josh and Ciaran) with their instruments.
